Long ride home.

We made it home safely but, coming home wasn't as pleasant as going up. I knew I had jinxed myself by bragging about how we never got into any traffic on the way up. We traveled one mile in two hours while trying to make it through NYC. I thought I had timed it right. Obviously not. Then as we got into Richmond on Day 2 (approx. three hours from home) and Cannon said, "I'm stuck." I look back and see that he has tried to get out of his seat too soon. We were pulling over for lunch. I guess he couldn't wait. I really have no idea how it happened. He somehow got himself twisted in the seat belt and then unbuckled. It was wrapped tight around his waist. I was trying to get it to release but every move made it retract tighter. I tried everything I could. He was crying. I was about to cry after a young mother of two snubbed me after I asked her for help. She said, "I'd rather not unbuckle my children to help you." She really said that. Another reason that Virginia should not be considered in the south. A southern lady would not have said such a thing. She realized she was being a "you know what" and came to help me offering her Eddie Bauer seat belt cutter. Don't get one. I just frayed the belt as I sawed and sawed the seat belt. Kids scissors ended up doing the trick after I had frayed the seat belt enough. Just keep scissors in your car. Much cheaper I'm sure. So, the Sequoia looked fabulous when we made it home with one cut seat belt and a duct taped DVD player. Landry ripped down the DVD player before we left Connecticut. Luckily, after some lovely duct tape it still worked for the ride home. Just so you know, seat belts cost $104.00. Fixing a DVD player cost quite a bit more than a seat belt. It turned into an expensive ride home. Though none of us really wanted to leave, we are glad to be home. But, we sure do miss Corey.
